Then 12th/13th October, 9th/10th November, 7th/8th December, 4th/5th January 2020, 1st/2nd February, 29th/30th Feb, 28th/29th March, 25th/26th April, 23rd/24th May, 20th/21st June and 18th/19th July.

The course will be led by a highly qualified and experienced team of teachers. I am the lead teacher. I have been practising yoga for over 20 years and teaching for 15 years, specialising in mindful, alignment-based, breath-led dynamic yoga.

I have experience in ashtanga yoga, vinyasa yoga, yin yoga, yoga therapy and vipassana meditation, and have enjoyed studying with some of the world’s leading teachers, including Mukunda Stiles (yoga therapy), Shiva Rea (vinyasa flow yoga), Tias Little, Uma Dinsmore-Tuli (pregnancy yoga and yoga nidra), Sarah Powers (yin yoga and meditation) and John Peacock (mindfulness and Vipassana meditation).

I am a British Wheel of Yoga Teacher, a Senior Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance UK, a pregnancy and post-natal yoga teacher and a Birthlight Baby Yoga, Level 2 teacher.

Module 1: What is yoga? The History and Philosophies of Yoga
  • History of yoga, including pre-classical, classical, Tantric, pre-modern and modern periods
  • Different yoga philosophies, lineages and different styles today
  • Ayurveda and its relationship to yoga
  • Why we practice yoga - research on benefits of yoga from ancient to modern periods
  • What is and isn’t yoga and what does yoga mean to us?


  • Method of assessment/exploration: Research and essay

    Module 2: Postures (Asana)
  • Detailed alignment of all core asanas for modern vinyasa yoga, including standing poses, seated, arm balances, inversions, backbends, prone postures, with benefits of each and contraindications.

    Method of assessment/exploration: Self practice, class study and presentations and teaching practice

    Module 3: The Breath and prana
  • What is prana? Study of subtle anatomy including nadis, chakras, granthis
  • Core breathing practices including full yoga breathing (diaphragmatic), nadi shodhana, bandhas, kumbhakas, ujjayi.

    Module 4: Meditation
  • Why meditate?
  • Discussion of many benefits. How to teach meditation.
  • Importance of regular self practice
  • Different techniques, including meditation techniques from the yoga, Buddhist and Tibetan traditions

    Module 5: Class sequencing and planning
  • How to plan and sequence a class for different needs, purposes, days, times of day and season.
  • The science of Ayurveda, and how this can help shape our teaching
  • How to build up to a key pose, to explore a certain theme and how to sequence energetically.

    Module 6: Teaching skills
  • Holding a space for self exploration and creating an environment for yoga
  • Use of voice, demonstration and mirroring
  • Adjustments
  • Ethics of teaching
  • How to protect yourself – physically and energetically
  • Private and group teaching
  • Teaching workshops

    Module 7: The business of yoga
  • How to organize making a living as a modern yoga teacher, in an ethical way, true to the spirit of yoga, including:
  • Advertising, Facebook and Instagram
  • Building your brand
  • Building up a teacher network.
    Method of assessment/exploration: Setting up your own online presence

    Module 8: Physiology & Anatomy
  • Studying the physical body to YMCA level 2 & 4 levels, and then applying this knowledge to our understanding of yoga postures and subtle anatomy
    Method of assessment/exploration: Online exam and teaching a class

    Module 9: First Aid
    Emergency First Aid At Work Training and certification



    In addition to attendance of the weekend modules, students are expected to work on their self practice at home and at class, to complete all homework assignments, on time, as set by the teacher, to assist and observe other teachers and to read widely.

    Application Eligibility:

    Applicants are required to have a minimum of 2 years regular practise experience supported by a reference.

    Certification Requirements:

    Paying the fees do not guarantee you a certificate as you will need to successfully pass all assignments and attend all modules.
